The best way I found to fix this problem is to get everybody out of the car, lock the car with the key fob and then unlock it again. Then the P will be a solid red and then you can remove the handbrake. This won't work when everybody is in the car because the seat sensors conflict with it for some reason.

Ive tried to reset it by holding down the trip counter & then pressing the Start/Stop button, this resets the spanner icon and miles until next service etc. But the orange service light is still on!?
